    Event description

Join us in making a difference, Donnybrook!

Join us at a community busy bee on the Preston Foreshore as part of the Preston River Foreshore Revitalisation Project. Following the busy bee, make your very own possum drey to support conservation efforts at home for the critically endangered western ringtail possum.

The Preston Foreshore in Donnybrook has undergone extensive restoration as part of this project over the past few years. This busy bee will concentrate on rejuvenating the health of seedlings on-site, involving tasks such as weeding, clearing old tree guards, and removing debris to prepare for upcoming planting this winter.

After the busy bee we’ll have some morning tea, and then be hosting a possum drey building workshop. Not familiar with dreys? They are nests that western ringtail possums construct from leaves and sticks for shelter. We'll be making artificial possum dreys from hanging plant baskets, providing an ideal artificial shelter that closely resembles the real thing!

Participants will have the opportunity to take home their dreys to hang in their own backyards, providing habitat for the critically endangered possums. This is a fantastic chance to contribute to the preservation of local biodiversity right in your own backyard! Please note that there will be a limited number of dreys available.

Participants are advised to bring a hat, gloves (if available), and wear weather-appropriate clothing and enclosed shoes for safety.

Join us on Sunday 5th May on the eastern side of the suspension bridge on the Preston River Foreshore in Donnybrook, with parking available on Clifford Road. We'll be getting busy from 9 am until 11:30 am.

Be quick to register as this event is sure to fill up! Please let us know if you can no longer attend as we would like to make your space available to someone else.
