    1. IDENTITY: Pride Wairau Short Film and Creative Showcase

IDENTITY: Pride Wairau Short Film and Creative Showcase ticket

Date: 9 June, 25 Time: 7pm - 9pm Doors open: 6:30pm Location: ASB Anderson Theatre DUE TO CONTRACTUAL AGREEMENTS, TICKETS FOR THIS EVENT CAN BE PURCHASED FROM EVENTFINDA AT: https://www.eventfinda.co.nz/2025/identity-pride-wairau-short-film-and-creative-showcase/blenheim A night of bold storytelling and authentic representation, the Pride Wairau Short Film and Creative Showcase. This carefully curated event brings together a selection of powerful films, crafted by queer creatives. Each film in the showcase explores themes of self-expression, identity, and the journey toward acceptance - whether within friendships, family, or broader societal structures. These films challenge rigid definitions of gender, masculinity, and cultural identity, offering a space for introspection and celebration of authenticity. Through three distinct cinematic works, IDENTITY invites you on a journey from personal self-discovery to a broader interrogation of culture, gender and community. Following the screenings, an intimate conversation with one of the filmmakers, Ramon Te Wake, will provide further insight into the creative process, the personal stories behind the films and the power of storytelling in shaping visibility and representation. Featured Films: - WAIT, WAIT, NOW! - A tale of friendship and freedom. When best friends are left at home for the night, they do what all teenage boys do. Raid mum’s wardrobe, play dress ups, and create a fantasy world where they feel safe and accepted. Maybe just some boys. Little do they know; the parents, are on to them. Is there safe bubble about to burst? - APPARATUS - Apparatus is a series of moving image portraits concerned with the presentation of heteronormative masculine identities, this work seeks to provide a counter narrative to the media portrayal of Indigenous masculinity as fixed, binary and subordinate to dominant western notions of manhood. - DIASPORA - In these precarious circumstances I'm compelled as a storyteller to remind the diverse communities of Aotearoa, We all have a shared history. The things that connect us are the things that we can draw strength from, and help us to navigate such confusing times. Diaspora is a devised moving image work, inspired by personal testimonies, lived experience and frictional points of view. Told through the body and articulated through the interpersonal space found between fluid motion and stillness. As the night draws to a close, the Pride Wairau Short Film and Creative Showcase leaves us with a deep sense of connection and reflection. Through bold storytelling and diverse perspectives, these films have illuminated the richness of queer identity and the power of authentic representation. We carry with us, not just the impact of these narratives but also a renewed appreciation for the voices that continue to challenge, inspire and redefine our collective experience. Join us!
