ACTORS LAB

Big ideas. Bold characters. Your unique voice.

An acting adventure for students in Grades 4–6, presented by Arts Lab Collective at Caulfield Grammar’s Shelford Campus.

Through drama games, improvisation, character work and storytelling, students will explore how actors use their voices, bodies and imaginations to bring stories to life.

Working alongside professional teaching artists, they’ll develop acting skills and discover the power of creating together. Every session offers opportunities to share ideas, explore different perspectives and make bold creative choices within a supportive community.

Along the way, students will build:

• Communication skills through speaking, listening and performing.

• Critical thinking through exploring characters, choices and motivations.

• Confidence through trying new things and contributing ideas.

• Collaboration through creating and problem-solving as an ensemble.

• Artistic individuality through developing their own ideas and personal approach to performance.

Whether your child loves the spotlight or is discovering their interest in acting, Actors Lab offers a welcoming space to connect, experiment and grow.

THE YEAR AHEAD

Actors Lab runs across four terms, with a shortened six-week first term then an eight-week program each term therein. As students develop their skills and grow together as an ensemble, they will work towards an end-of-year showcase in the school theatre, celebrating their creativity and progress with family and friends.

Parent FAQs | Term 1, 2027

  • What is Primary Actors Lab?

Primary Actors Lab is an six-week creative program for students in Years 4–6, delivered by professional teaching artists from Arts Lab Collective. Students explore drama, storytelling, movement and performance while building confidence, communication and collaboration skills. The program culminates in a Creative Showcase for family and friends.

  • Does my child need previous performance experience?

Not at all! Primary Actors Lab welcomes students of all experience levels. Whether your child loves performing or is discovering their creative confidence, our supportive environment encourages everyone to participate, contribute and develop at their own pace.

  • When and where does the program take place?

The program runs across six weeks during Term 1, 2027, at Caulfield Grammar School’s Shelford Campus. Sessions run for 60 minutes after school. Room details will be provided before the program commences.

  • What is the cost and what does it include?

The program costs $200 per student for the first term's shortened program and $250 for the full eight weeks, payable upon registration window for upcoming term. This includes all facilitated sessions, creative activities, program materials and participation in the final Creative Showcase.

  • Is there a minimum number of participants?

Yes. A minimum of 10 students is required for the program to proceed. Should minimum enrolments not be reached, families will be notified and receive a full refund.

  • Who will be teaching my child?

Sessions are facilitated by Arts Lab Collective’s professional Creative Faculty, comprising experienced performers, directors and teaching artists. All facilitators working with students hold current Working With Children Checks and operate in accordance with applicable child safety requirements.

  • What happens if my child misses a session?

We understand that occasional absences are unavoidable. Please notify your Arts Lab representative if your child cannot attend. As the program is delivered across six/eight consecutive weeks, missed sessions cannot be refunded or made up individually. Our facilitators will support students in rejoining the creative process when they return.

  • What will students present at the final Creative Showcase?

Rather than rehearsing an existing musical or play, students collaboratively develop original theatrical work inspired by their own ideas, characters and stories.

The Creative Showcase provides an opportunity for family and friends to celebrate their achievements and experience the work they have created together. Further details regarding attendance and arrangements will be communicated during the term.

  • How will parents receive updates and communicate with Arts Lab?

Once registered, parents will receive further information and ongoing communication directly from a designated Arts Lab Collective representative via WhatsApp.

This will be our primary communication channel for program updates, reminders, showcase information and general enquiries throughout the term.

Parents will be provided with instructions for joining the communication channel before the program begins.

  • What happens if we need to cancel our registration?

As places are limited and staffing is arranged according to enrolments, registration secures your child’s place for the full six/eight-week program.

Cancellation and refund requests should be directed to Arts Lab Collective. Any applicable refunds will be assessed in accordance with the booking terms and Australian Consumer Law.

If Arts Lab Collective cancels the program before commencement, families will receive a full refund.
