Princesses of Planting at TOP SECRET location near Canberra

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

The Princesses of Planting is a playful regeneration project wherein participants are invited to dress up, learn and perform simple dance routines and practice landcare and regeneration - all at the same time!

This event is a fun way to bring all ages together to laugh, dance and play while actively making the world a better place.

On Sunday June 18, heroes and land carers (one and the same in this project) will arrive at the location at 11am, where they will find the earth prepared for planting with their Superhero hosts in waiting. They will have an introduction and orientation, and will warm up together before starting the main project – to get 900 trees in the ground. They will plant to a nostalgic soundtrack, and have opportunities to learn and perform simple and fun dance routines. After a hard day of work, dance and plenty of posing, a hot meal* will be served as a thank you for all the hard work.

Further details of the event will be sent out one week prior to the planting - including the address, what to bring, any changes, etc.

The land to be planted is large and varying terrain, which may be challenging for people with mobility issues. We would love to make this event as inclusive as possible, please let us know if you have any questions or support requirements.

Princesses of Planting is part of a Project Alchemy, a series a cross disciplinary arts project to build community connection across south-east Australia. The project is facilitated Canberra based Rebus Theatre and involves artists from Bega Valley Shire, Eurobodalla Shire, East Gippsland, Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council, and the ACT.  Drawing on the plethora of stories and media that reference the environmental issues faced today, Princesses of Planting is a response to the escalating climate crisis. It is also a response to status of environmentalists in society and media, and aims to help recast earth-carers as heroes of this time.

We thank Local Land Services for providing the Trees, and our top secret host at our top secret location.

Project Alchemy is made possible thanks to funding from the Australian Government for the Black Summer Bushfire Grant Program.Rebus is also supported by Ainslie and Gorman Arts Centres and the ACT Government.
