This fun class will introduce you to the art of milk carton printmaking with a fun twist : Fish!
This is a beginner etching and printmaking class that requires no drawing skills whatsoever! Guaranteed results
Milk cartons are a great surface to etch and print with. They are a kitchen DIY version of the traditional copper plate etching. And it’s easy to cut into fun shapes to make your print more interesting.
So for this class, we’re gonna focus on fish! The scales and the fin and all the fun textures can be easily done with this etching technique!
And in the Japanese tradition of printmaking, printing a real fish is a common practice, so in this fish print class, we can play with that aesthetic too!
A lot of models and templates will be provided for those of you who are not too confident with your drawing skills. Printed images are magic : the textures make the simplest design look great!
And to make it a real kitchen experience we will be printing our fish.. in a pasta maker!

Who will be teaching?
Emilie (she/her) is an artist and educator based between Melbourne and Marseille (Fr), working across media with a focus on community-based practice and education. She graduated from her PhD in Fine Arts at the Victorian College of the Arts in 2020 and has been an art resident at Testing Grounds (2020), Making Space (2021) and the Comic Art Workshop (2021).
Emilie has exhibited her works at FortyFive Downstairs gallery, the Abbotsford convent, No Vacancy Gallery, Arcade and George Patton Gallery.
In 2021, Emilie opened Couleur in Collingwood, a printmaking studio focusing on DIY, hand-prints, and experimental printmaking. Since 2023, Couleur Studio has relocated in South of France. Emilie is also a comic book artist and her illustration has been published by the Lifted Brow and she self-published her first graphic novel in 2018 with Tree Paper Comics in Melbourne. In 2023 she is running Glow Comics Trails festival with Laneway Learning, celebrating Melbourne's booming comics scene.

Idle Time Studios
Idle Time Studios is a shared studio space for creatives in Brunswick East and a workshop space for art classes !
We are not wheelchair accessible as of now, and there is a flight of stairs to get to the workshop room.
Idle Time is located :4-6 Lincoln St, Brunswick East VIC 3057
It is a short walk from tram stop Mitchell St/Holmes Street (stop 128), on the 1 or 6 tram line. There is plenty of street parking available on the street of the studio (Lincoln St), as well as along Allard park on Donald St.
When you get to Idle Time Studio, go through the roller door and all the way down the courtyard. Turn right and up the stairs : the workshop room is at the top of the stairs on your left. Follow signs and call Studio resident and Laneway Learning teacher Emilie Walsh if you are lost : 0402684139
