Soft-ground Etching Workshop with Elmari Steyn
Explore the unique possibilities and mark-making options of soft-ground etching on copper-plate. Learn to create soft-ground line variation in combination with dried organic material, embossed paper and textiles.
About the course
Learn to apply and utilize Soft-ground on copper-plate. Soft-ground has a high wax content which creates unique possibilities for line variation, embossed paper, leaves, flowers and textiles to be imbedded into it, under pressure. When etched, this results in soft organic forms, lines and edges.
What Students Need to Bring:
1) Drawing materials (e.g. drawing and tracing paper, eraser, pencils).
2) Small, sharp scissors.
3) Etching Needles (e.g. etching scribe, sharp pointed tools).
4) Selection of small, 1/0.5(soft) cheap artists paint brushes.
5) Preferred image/images to work with.
6) Apron, wear closed shoes
Materials:
Some materials will be supplied at a cost of $30 to each student included in the course fee. This will include consumables, such as: copper-plate, printing paper, soft-ground, printing inks and modifiers, gloves, contact paper, acetate, masking
tape, transfer paper, ferric chloride, cleaning agents, proofing-paper and butchers paper, spray paint, etc.
Catering:
Morning tea will be supplied. Please bring your own lunch. Please advise us of any dietary requirements.
Cancellation policy:
In order for the workshop to proceed, the course requires 6 participants. If this number is not met the workshop will be cancelled and a full refund will be provided. Cancellations are possible up to 7 days before the event. A 10% cancellation fee will be charged with the refund payable automatically through this platform. Within 7 days refunds will not be available.
