Your own PRIVATE Claytime Workshop at MOA
Description
Grounded By Designs is Newcastle’s eco-conscious ceramic studio and workshop space, tucked inside MOA & co in Carrington. Created by photographer and ceramicist Myf Garven, the studio is a place for slow making, creative exploration and connection.
About the workshop
Your own PRIVATE Claytime Workshop is an invitation to take a morning for yourself and your people. The session is about slowing down and shaping something by hand in a calm and supportive space.
With a maximum of six participants, there’s time for Myf to offer individual guidance and help you create something you truly love. Together, we’ll make a simple, functional piece such as a cup, bowl or small vase. You’ll learn hand-building techniques like pinch potting and adding handles or feet, and then have space to explore your own ideas.
All tools, materials and plenty of clay are provided. Just bring your curiosity and a willingness to play.
What to expect
Investment: $120 per person (minimum of four people)
Your Claytime ticket includes a guided hand-building clay session in the Grounded By Designs studio, all clay and tools required, along with herbal tea and a selection of tasty treats. If you’d like to order your own espresso coffee, you’re very welcome to visit Frankie the van before the workshop begins.
The ticket also includes the glazing and firing of one handmade piece for you to keep. Most people make one to two pieces during the session. If you’d like to keep more of what you create, additional pieces can be added on for $20 per piece, payable on the day. This includes glazing and firing.
If your piece turns out differently from what you imagined, that’s all part of the process. In these cases, you’ll receive a $30 credit to spend in-store at Grounded By Designs or put towards a future workshop. This experience is about showing up, enjoying the process, and letting go of perfection.
It’s about the experience, not perfection.
Whether you are new to clay or rediscovering it, a Claytime Workshop is designed to help you pause, reconnect and make something meaningful.

Not at all. Coffee & Claytime is beginner-friendly and designed for anyone curious about working with clay. Myf will guide you through the process step by step and offer individual support throughout the session.
- How many pieces will I make?
Most people make one to two pieces during the session, depending on pace and design. Your ticket includes the glazing and firing of one piece. If you’d like to keep more, additional pieces can be added on for $20 per piece, payable on the day.
- When will my piece be ready to collect?
Finished pieces are usually ready for collection around three to four weeks after the session. You’ll be contacted when your piece is ready to pick up from the studio.

- What should I wear?
Comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting a little clay on. Aprons are provided, but clay has a way of finding its place.
- Can I come just for the experience and not keep a piece?

- Is this workshop suitable as a gift?
Yes, Coffee & Claytime makes a thoughtful gift for anyone who enjoys creative experiences, slowing down, or trying something new.
