A practical one-day course with Stuart Douglas for teachers looking to develop students’ communication and presentation of design ideas. Explore 2D and 3D digital sketching, starting with linework and sketching principles, then progressing to line weights, digital marker rendering, materials, image integration and advanced digital rendering.
Build confidence in teaching sketching skills and presenting design intent. Sessions demonstrate how AI can support a digital workflow while retaining original creativity and evidence.

09:00–10:45 Demonstration and Practical Session 1: Procreate, layers, 2D sketching, symmetry, brushes, line weight, digital marker, masking, rules and tips

11:00–12:30 Practical Session 2 — Presentation and Communication: digital rendering, detailing and integration of models
12:30–13:30 Lunch
13:30–16:30 Practical Session 3 — Advanced 3D Sketching and Digital Rendering: advanced detailing, materials, digital workflow and AI

Equipment and resources are provided. Bringing your own iPad is beneficial, as numerous files will be shared.
Course leader — Stuart Douglas
Stuart is Head of Design & Technology (Senior) at Rugby School Thailand and a former Head of Faculty. He qualified as an Advanced Skills Teacher and Specialist Leader of Education, and spent five years as a university course leader for Secondary PGCE D&T. A former Design & Technology Association consultant, he has co-authored four D&T books on communication and presentation skills and developed a global education programme for teaching 3D CAD.
Stuart received the IET award for Outstanding Contribution to Post-16 Education and holds a master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Innovation from Warwick University. His department at Rugby School Thailand won the International Schools Award for Creativity and Innovation in Learning for its embedded use of augmented reality across D&T.
Course fee
