Profiling and Debugging Tools for C and C++: Valgrind
Description
This series introduces the essential tools for program profiling. Each workshop of the series will introduce one tool and you can register for the ones that are suitable for you.
You will learn to use command line tools to pinpoint exactly where your code is slowing down—identifying "bottlenecks"—and how to strategically optimise them. This course bridges the gap between writing code that works and writing code that scales, empowering researchers from all disciplines to maximise their computational resources and accelerate their time-to-discovery.
Valgrind is a programming tool for memory debugging, memory leak detection, and profiling.
Prerequisites
Experience with C or C++ programming.
Experience with using Gadi via command line interface.
Objectives
Use Memcheck to find invalid memory operations, uninitialized values, and memory leaks.
Use Callgrind, Cachegrind, and Massif to inspect program execution and memory use.
