Project Roshan is an initiative for Queensland's South Asian community generously funded through the Government's Safe and Diverse Communities Grants Program.

Project Roshan aims to shine a light on all types of domestic abuse, including physical, emotional, and financial abuse and a common but rarely talked about form of abuse known as Intimate Partner Sexual Violence (IPSV).

Through community discussions about relationships, respect and consent, parenting, and family life in Australia, Project Roshan will bring together the views of the South Asian community on what matters most to them.

How Can You Be Involved?

If you are a community leader or champion with South Asian heritage over 18 years old, we invite you to join a focus group.

This is an opportunity to talk about all the things you wish your sisters, daughters, family, and friends knew about healthy and not-so-healthy relationships, marriage, and life in Australia.

We are seeking your help to develop trauma-informed, safe, and culturally sensitive resources that encourage healthy relationships in our community. The resources will also raise awareness of the difficult-to-talk-about issues of domestic and sexual abuse.

Focus Group Details

Can you attend more than one focus group?
To ensure everyone has an opportunity to contribute, we ask that women and community leaders attend only ONE focus group. If you feel you weren't able to get all of your ideas across in the group, we are happy to speak with you individually.

Can you bring kids along?
Due to the sensitive topics discussed, it is unsuitable for children over 2 to attend. Childminding services can be arranged at the venue if needed. If you are interested, please ensure you indicate this during the registration process.

How will you benefit?
Contributing to a focus group can be a rewarding experience. It is an opportunity to have your voice heard and help shape community-wide messaging to improve the safety of women of South Asian heritage.

Who will you be talking to?
The focus groups will be run by Natasha from The Bangle Foundation and Kerrin from GCCASV, who both have extensive experience talking with community members about difficult topics.

What language will the focus groups be in?
The focus groups will be conducted in English. If you are uncomfortable with English, please indicate your preferred language when registering. We will do our best to provide a translator for you on the day of the focus group.

What will we do with your ideas?
We aim to develop a community education session as well as a print resource that can be shared widely. Focus group members will be invited to comment on the final drafts.

Will people know what you've said?
The ideas and insights people share will be used to inform the final resources. We will not directly name anyone or share what they said or experienced. While we ask focus group members to not share what they hear outside of the focus group, we cannot guarantee this. If confidentiality is breached, we may intervene and address the issue privately.
