    Proofreading and Writing Training Outline

Teach learners the fundamentals of language

As this course is aimed at instructing learners in proofreading and writing, learners will be taught to learn the relevant, key fundamentals of the English language that will be constantly encountered in their field or profession. Syntactic structure, word meaning and placement placement, lexical knowledge, all of these need to be taken into account when correcting even basic texts, let alone more complicated material. The proofreader and writer both need a firm grip in these core fundamentals to succeed.

Be aware of the different types of language they may encounter

Regardless of where they end up, the many fields that a proofreader and writer can end up in can be quite different from one another. Terms and jargon used by people in the business world will be vastly different from the terms and jargon used by the medical world, the world of advertising, or even the world of the law firm. Not to mention the differences between businesses themselves; as words and terms with a specific meaning in a business centered on food and catering can be completely different from the words and terms used in a business centered on the production of textiles. The proofreader and writer under our guidance will be well are of these subtle differences long before they finish our program, so no matter where they are in their roles they already possess some understanding of what their particular employer means in the text they will process.

Promote speed and efficiency in the profession

Proofreaders and writers are almost always under constant strain from limited deadlines and lengthy materials that need to be edited, watered down, or otherwise perfected and be fit for usage or consumption for their employer or other consumers. To this end, learners will be taught techniques and systems that promote high fidelity to their original texts and maximum efficiency in their work, allowing them to fulfill the immense demands of their employers without sacrificing quality of work.

    Encourage Maverick thinking

Proofreaders and writers, depending on the strictness of their employer, have a chance to improve or enhance their employer’s original work and make it more insightful, impactful, or at the very least more interesting to read. Our training course offers materials and systems that help promote creativity within our learners with the intended goal of expanding their vocabulary, be more creative with their work, and generally expand their capacity to improve and enhance their future employers’ material beyond simply correcting their grammatical mistakes and rewriting their ambiguous statements.

Summary of Proof Reading and Writing

The job of the proofreader and writer is very much behind the scenes. They take the raw material of their superiors or employers and go through it with a fine-toothed comb, analyse their mistakes and see the errors that make their statements loose meaning or impact, and then to the best of their ability adjust, rewrite, and file down the errors and mistakes until they have something polished and of higher quality worthy of greater scrutiny by a greater audience, while still retaining the intended meaning and message that their employer or superior wished to convey.
