Magic and scifi technology provide endless opportunities for unique and interesting disability aids. We’ll talk about some of our favourite disability aids from existing media, plus strategies for creating unique disability aids that fit your story and worldbuilding.

Meet our panelists

Stephen Graham King (He/They) is a Queer space opera writer, a black and white street photographer, a disabled cancer survivor, and an aspiring mensch. He lives in Toronto, and his works include Chasing Cold as well as the five books in the Maverick Heart series: Soul’s Blood, Gatecrasher, A Congress of Ships, Ghost Light Burn, and The Infinite Heist. He has been a frequent guest on podcasts and panels, advocating for lived experience queer and disability stories of the future.

The poetic storytelling of Jeané D. Ridges is rendered from abundant melanin, Southernness, good eatin’, breath, ill living, and care for our whole ecosystem’s thriving. They’ve been a copyeditor at khōréō since 2023 and with their coeditor Lysz Flo launched Spec Colorways In Verse, a newsletter/community space centering queer BIPOC speculative poetry, in 2026. Elliott Dunstan (he/it) is a transmasc author living on the unceded Algonquin-Anishinaabe land of the Ottawa Valley. Previously published in Strange Horizons, Bywords and Renaissance Press, his debut novel is coming out in October 2026 from Poplar Press.

S. M. Reiher is a queer science fantasy writer and author of The Mycelium Palace with too many food sensitivities and a love of nature. When not diving down research-related rabbit holes, Reiher enjoys reading, cooking and staring at birds.
Meet our moderator

R. Haven is a fantasy and horror author hailing from Toronto, Canada. His debut novel, The Other Face of Sympathy, is in bookstores now, and he has won a short story award from the Inkwell Literary Festival.
