Protect biodiversity in the Collie River
Event description
Help build fish hotels and survey the river ecosystem at our workshop!
Restore habitat in the Collie River to support native fish species. Morning tea provided, limited spaces available so be quick to register!
This hands-on workshop is part of the LCC’s Upper Collie River Aquatic Habitat Restoration Project. We’ll be joined by scientists from the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) and OzFish, who will guide participants through two key activities:
- River Critters Survey: learn about aquatic life in the Collie River and discover the vital role of instream habitats. DWER scientists will demonstrate survey techniques and discuss the species that call the river home.
- Fish Hotel Building Workshop led by OzFish Unlimited. Attendees will together build fish hotels to provide habitat for native fish species in the river. These structures will later be installed to help protect and sustain our local aquatic life.
This highly collaborative project is supported by funding from the Western Australian Government’s State NRM Program and South 32 Worsley. Further support has been provided by Department of Water and Environmental Regulation, OzFish Unlimited and Shire of Collie.
