Event description

The Centre for Health in All Policies Research Translation convenes In Conversation: Boundary, Spanners, Thinkers and Policy Actors Roundtables approximately three times a year. The sessions to date have been a mixture of invitation-only meetings and publicly shared webinars, providing a platform for researchers, policy actors and implementation experts to elevate discussion on emerging issues, present new and upcoming research, and facilitate conversation around impacts and possible solutions.

In partnership with Croakey Health Media, the Centre for Health in All Policies Research Translation (CHiAPRT) is convening the eighth In Conversation Roundtable webinar, titled Protecting Public Interest Journalism as a Public Health Good.

Public interest journalism is motivated by (and works towards) the greater public good, rather than traditional commercial or self-serving interests, and holds those in power to account. It also contributes to a reliable, relevant, and safe news and information environment and can amplify and reinforce the voices and messages of those with less power.

This roundtable discussion will bring together a diverse group of leaders in the field to explore and discuss the issue of public interest journalism, with a key focus on the challenges the field faces and how reinvigorating and supporting the independent journalistic field is critical to tackle the range of societal challenges facing our global community.

Speakers:
- Melissa Sweet
- Norman Swan
- Bronwyn Fredericks
- Alex Cramb
- Carmel Williams - Rapporteur

We invite you to join us for a lively and robust exploration into public interest journalism as a powerful tool for health, wellbeing, and sustainability.

Please join us on Wednesday the 28th of May 2025, from 3:00 - 4:15pm ACST
