Event description

Join us from 5:45pm for drinks and finger food to celebrate the opening of PRS Asia March 2025!

The formalities will commence at 6:30pm with a welcome from PRS Asia Co-Chairs, Dr Michelle Aung Thin, RMIT School of Media & Communication, RMIT Australia, & Dr Andrew Stiff, School of Communication & Design, RMIT Vietnam.

This will then be followed by keynote addresses by Dr Rachaporn Choochuey and Dương Gia Hiếu, followed by a conversation with A/Prof John Doyle as Interlocutor.

At this PRS Asia, our keynote presenters will be addressing ‘craft’. How does craft shape our understanding of methodology, of the political and of the pleasure we take in practice? What does craft mean across creative disciplines? And how does craft, and the tacit knowledge it implies, shape originality?

Dr Rachaporn Choochuey is a Bangkok-based architect, received an M.S.AAD. from Columbia University and a Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo. She was a faculty member at Chulalongkorn University and later held visiting professorships at Yale School of Architecture (2022) and Columbia GSAPP (2024). In 2009, she co-founded all(zone), a Bangkok-based studio inspired by the dynamism of tropical megacities. Their work explores contemporary vernacular design, creating light, adaptable spaces through experimentation and playfulness.

Dương Gia Hiếu is a designer/artist. He runs Ném, which is a Sài Gòn-based design studio that takes an upcycled approach to creating objects.  Ném focuses on how to improve the relationship between people and objects by design.

A/Prof John Doyle is an Associate Professor in the School of Architecture and Urban Design at RMIT University, where he is the Associate Dean of Architecture. He is a registered practising architect and partner at Common ADR, a Melbourne based architecture firm focusing on public projects. John’s research practice uses architectural design tools to explore innovative models for urban design. He is a researcher in the superURBAN lab at RMIT University. His work has been exhibited widely, including at the Shenzhen, Seoul, Rotterdam, Tallinn and Venice architecture biennales. He is the co-author of “Supertight: Models for Living and Making Culture in Dense Urban Environments,” and “House Precinct Territory: Design Strategies for the Productive City.”

Location: Nina Next Space, 180/1 Nguyễn Tất Thành, Phường 13, Quận 4, Hồ Chí Minh, Vietnam.
