Tree and Shrub Pruning Workshop 2025
Event description
This event will take place at the Dane County Extension office on Madison's East Side from 9 am to 12:30 pm on Saturday, March 15, 2025. A lecture on pruning trees and shrubs by Horticulture Educator Lisa Johnson will be followed by a hands-on pruning activity in the Dane County Extension Teaching Garden where participants can practice their skills.
- Please dress appropriately for the outdoor portion of the class
- If you have pruning tools, please bring them; a limited number of tools will be available at the event
Lisa will be joined during the hands-on session by certified arborists from Tree Health Management who are volunteering their time to lead small groups in the pruning exercise.
You will learn major pruning techniques for shrubs and when to prune them, as well as proper pruning techniques to use on trees. The focus will be on ornamental deciduous trees and shrubs, though evergreen pruning will be briefly addressed. The event does not cover fruit tree pruning.
