Sat, 25 Oct, 11am - 12:30pm AEDT

Event description

Ayahuasca is a traditional Amazonian brew with a rich history. Plants in our own backyard contain the same active compounds.

Explore the psychedelic roots of Australia with ethnobotanist, natural products chemist and science communicator Dr Liam Engel on Saturday October 25th, at the Village Brewery in Marrickville.

Australia is home to over 900 different Acacia species, several of which contain ‘the spirit molecule’ – n,n,dimethryptamine (DMT). Emphasising their psychoactive content (tryptamines, β-carbolines, etc.), Dr Engel will overview wattle’s spiritual, religious, recreational, medical and cultural use. We will touch upon Aboriginal usage, wattle foods as well as related conservation and sustainability issues. Finally, we’ll conclude with a Q&A, opening up a broader discussion around psychoactive plant chemistry and culture.

Tickets are strictly limited. While this event runs for 90 minutes (11:00-12:30), Village Brewery is open until 9:00pm. Participants can keep the magic plant party going, should they wish…

So that we can all enjoy a legal and psychoactive Acacia consumable, Wildflower beer offer a number of Acacia-derived beers, which will be available on tap during the event. As well as admission, adult attendees will be entitled to one complimentary schooner of a delicious wattle beer.

A selection of psychoactive plants will also be available for purchase.
