Public Community - Talk and Presentation

AUSTRALIAN ADVENTURER, AUTHOR, KEYNOTE SPEAKER, AND MULTI-WORLD RECORD HOLDER SAILOR - LISA BLAIR

Where: Cowra Services Club
When: January 13th, 2025, 5:00pm- 6:00pm followed by a 30-minute Q&A

Join us this Sunday in Cowra to meet and listen to one of the world’s most inspiring and intrepid adventurers. Lisa Blair is an Australian sailor who discovered her passion for the sea at 25, and has since become a trailblazer in the world of sailing and ocean health.

In 2017, Lisa made history by becoming the first woman to sail solo around Antarctica with one stop, surviving a dramatic dismasting at sea. Her yacht, aptly named Climate Action Now, symbolises her dedication to a sustainable future, inspiring global action through her innovative post-it note campaign.

Lisa continued to break barriers by leading the first all-female team to compete in the 2017 Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race in 16 years. In December 2018, she set two more world records by sailing solo, non-stop, and unassisted around Australia in just 58 days, despite only sleeping in 20-minute intervals. In 2019, she made history again by racing in the Melbourne to Hobart Yacht Race with co-skipper Jackie Parry, becoming the first double-handed female team to finish the race.

On May 25th, 2022, Lisa achieved the ultimate milestone, becoming the fastest person to sail solo, non-stop, and unassisted around Antarctica, shaving 10 days off the previous record. During this epic 92-day voyage, Lisa worked with scientific organisation's like the Bureau of Meteorology, the Australian Institute of Marine Science, and the Seabed 2030 project. Her expedition was recognised as a United Nations Decade of Ocean Science initiative for her efforts in deploying weather buoys, collecting ocean health data, and gathering over 180 microplastic samples.

Lisa has sailed over 110,000 nautical miles and holds an RYA Yacht Master Offshore certification. Lisa is the author of published book Facing Fear and a motivational speaker, sharing her insights on resilience and mental agility. As a passionate climate activist, Lisa continues to spearhead projects that promote sustainability and inspire future generations to embrace climate action.

Currently Lisa is writing a new book whilst on residency at The Corridor Project - a not for profit arts and cultural organisation sited on Wiradjuri country near Wyangala Dam NSW Australia. Be inspired by Lisa’s next epic journey and innovation of marine technology.
