    Spend the day with the School of Public Health’s researchers at our 2024 Research Symposium, "Through the Looking-Glass: The Future of Public Health in a Changing World", showcasing the diversity of research in public health.

    This is a free in-person event, with lunch provided | Registrations essential by Sunday 1 December to reserve your place.

    Curiouser and curiouser.
    Lessons from Wonderland: Perspectives on policies to support health in the community.

    Rebecca Tooher has been the Director of Policy and Advocacy at the South Australian Council of Social Service (SACOSS) since October 2022. Before joining SACOSS she led educational strategy at the University of Adelaide, as the Director Education Strategy and Teaching Excellence in the Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic. Prior to moving into educational leadership she was a public health researcher, teacher and practitioner in the School of Public Health, program director of undergraduate and postgraduate health science and public health programs, and a former President of the SA Branch of the Public Health Association of Australia.

    Trained as an audiologist, specialising in cochlear implantation and psychosocial outcomes for young people who use cochlear implants to hear, she has always been interested in combining evidence with the voices of people with lived experience to try to effect change and she is passionate about social justice for people experiencing poverty, inequality and injustice. She has a particular interest in participative and deliberative processes.

    John is a world renowned epidemiologist and Professor of Public Health. He has numerous awards and Fellowships, including a Canada Research Chair in Population Health, an honorary doctorate in Medical Science from the University of Copenhagen, and a prestigious NHMRC Australia Fellowship. John has over 300 journal publications, and he has been named one of the world’s highly cited researchers by Thomson Reuters, placing him in the top 1% of cited scientists in his field.
