Public Lecture | Bio/Genomic Security, National/Global Security and Gene Editing: Some Philosophical and Ethical Issues
Event description
Charles Sturt University invites you to a thought provoking discussion led by Professor Seumas Miller, Professor of Philosophy at Charles Sturt University and Distinguished Research Fellow at the Uehiro Oxford Institute, University of Oxford.
Supported by a major National Health and Medical Research Council grant, Professor Miller's research explores the profound ethical questions surrounding emerging genome editing technologies such as CRISPR.
CRISPR has the potential to revolutionise medicine and agriculture through its unprecedented precision and accessibility. However, it also presents serious risks - from the creation of dangerous pathogens to ethically fraught applications such as human genetic enhancement or population control.
We welcome you to join this important conversation about the promise and perils of genome editing and the responsibility we hold as a global community and join us for light refreshments following the event.
