Event description

The Centre for the Study of the Western Tradition at Campion College warmly invites you to attend a public lecture with Fr Sean Byrnes to discuss the topic “The Anthropological Dimensions of Marian Cooperation: What Does Mary’s Cooperation Mean for our Own”.

The notion of Marian Cooperation proposes that Mary cooperates in the redemptive work of the Son. This lecture aims to take up the theme of Marian cooperation by Firstly discussing the scriptural and theological foundations as well as the common theological approaches of Marian cooperation. Secondly, the question will be posed ‘what are the anthropological implications of Marian cooperation?’ The answer to this question will be found in the Marian theology of Henri De Lubac and Louis Bouyer which demonstrate that Mary’s own unique cooperation establishes the pattern for the human person’s co-operation with God’s will.

The Centre for the Study of the Western Tradition (CSWT) seeks to encourage critical reflection and research on the history, literature, languages, philosophy and theology that characterise Western civilisation and culture, in order to raise the profile of these vital disciplines in Australian tertiary education. These integrated humane studies evolved from the classical and medieval Liberal Arts, including European, Græco-Roman, Byzantine and Near Eastern traditions. They remain an essential key to a rich understanding of Australian culture and society, including our ideals of democracy, our Enlightenment heritage, our Christian-oriented past, our multi-cultural identity, and the classical underpinnings of our education.
