From delusion to enlightenment: Guifeng Zongmi’s ten stages of reversion.
🌞 Guifeng Zongmi (779-841) was a patriarch of the Kegon school as well as being a master in the Chan tradition. Verdu (1974) regards his teachings as being the epitome of Buddhist philosophy. Central to his teachings is the notion of “interpenetration” between two apparent opposites, e.g., knowledge/non-knowledge, subject/object, absolute/relative, unity/diversity. This talk will focus on the intermediate stages of his teachings on the “ten stages of reversion”. These ten stages detail the process from delusion to enlightenment (original awareness).
