Event description

This workshop will empower participants to counter the common narrative that public investment is unaffordable or must be paid for by implementing austerity measures. Whether for healthcare, education, pensions, climate action, and whatever else is needed in the future, you will come away with a true understanding of how governments spend money and what is possible.

The program will comprise a series of introductory talks by Associate Professor Steven Hail and participatory group discussions based on short articles and case studies covering the fundamentals of MMT.

10:00am - 11:00am Part 1: Money - what it is and where it came from.

11:00am - 11:30am  Coffee/tea break.

11:30am - 1:00pm Part 2: The power of the purse - national budgeting.

1:00pm - 2:00pm Lunch break.

2:00pm - 3:30pm Part 3: Finding The Money documentary screening.

3:30pm - 4:00pm Coffee/tea break.

4:00pm - 5:00pm Part 4: Inflation, Instability and the RBA.

6:00pm - Optional evening social.
