Public Science Talk: Low trophic aquaculture in Aotearoa
Event description
Join us to discover Cawthron Institute’s innovative work in low trophic aquaculture.
New Zealand is a world-leader in low trophic aquaculture, the farming of aquatic primary consumers like seaweeds and aquatic primary producers like shellfish, exemplified by our iconic Greenshell™ mussel farming sector.
Low trophic species naturally grow efficiently, so by farming the right species we can sustainably deliver high-value products to domestic and international consumers.
Patrick Cahill will present work being undertaken to deliver volume and value from low trophic aquaculture using examples of total domestication of the Greenshell™ mussel, seaweed and shellfish new species pipelines, and a seafood functional health claim.
This talk was presented by Patrick to Members of Parliament at the Parliamentary Science Forum in April. You can read more about the forum here.
There are options to attend this event in person in Nelson and/or receive an email with the recording of the presentation (not a live-stream) later in the week. Please make sure you register for the correct ticket.
