Event description

Let's Shape the Future of Auslan, Interpreting, and Translating Qualifications Together

Consultative workshop conducted in Auslan and English

Public Skills Australia—the Jobs and Skills Council for the public safety and government sectors—is delivering an important initiative to review and update the Auslan, Interpreting, and Translating Training Qualifications. This vital project seeks to align these qualifications with the evolving needs of students, professionals, and Auslan users, ensuring relevance now and into the future.

We are inviting key stakeholders, members of the Deaf and Deafblind communities, representatives from Deaf advocacy organisations, industry professionals, and service providers to participate in a Consultative Workshop. This workshop will provide a collaborative environment, bringing together representatives from government and non-government organisations alongside community members. Together, we will identify challenges within the training and interpreting industry, explore barriers, and uncover opportunities for improvement.

Your insights and expertise will play a vital role in shaping meaningful updates to the qualifications, ensuring they address the needs of the community and the professional industry.

Workshop Agenda

  • Current State of Auslan Interpreting in Australia & Global Best Practices.
  • Perspectives on Current Qualifications.
  • Identifying Areas for Improvement.
  • Building a Pathway for Action.

The workshop will be held in person, with refreshments provided, including morning tea and lunch for all attendees. To ensure accessibility and inclusivity, Auslan Interpreters will be available to support the discussions.
