Event description
Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) is Australia's national research evaluation framework, developed and administered by the Australian Research Council (ARC).
Understanding the ERA framework and strategically aligning your research with the framework should be part of your publishing strategy - regardless of your discipline area.
This two-hour virtual workshop will be delivered by Outside Opinion's Senior Associate Dr Anthony (Tony) Willis. As Executive General Manager of the Australian Research Council Feb 2019 – May 2021, Dr Willis had oversight of ERA research evaluation policy and program delivery. From this unique perspective, Dr Willis will share his insights into ERA2018, how the Government’s recent review of ERA and EI will reshape ERA2023, and how researchers and research managers can strategically optimise publication strategies. Specific topics covered will include:
- How researchers/research directors/managers can consider ERA2023 in their publication choices and strategy
- Thematic alignment of research areas and strengths (the Explanatory Statement) and how to shape and curate groups of research
- How best to present NTROs – planning for and preparing Research Statements, Portfolios, etc.
- Considering the new ANZSRC codes and how to use them.
Q&A
Dr Willis will dedicate time towards the end of the session to address any questions you have. To maximise the chances of your question being addressed, please feel free to let us know your questions in advance, here.
By attending this session you will:
- better understand the differences between more and less effective ERA planning approaches, from the point of view of both the ARC and universities.
- better able to identify challenges in planning for the next round and clarify questions about recent ARC changes and (to some extent) the processes in place for the ERA2023 round.
- get insights into ARC practice, the rationales behind it and options for adapting institutional and disciplinary approaches effectively, ahead of time.
Please note that this session will be recorded but the recording only available to those that register for the session and may be uploaded as an online resource.
