PUNQ Bus Trip Yunbenun / Magnetic Island
Description
Join the bus tour for an experience of Yunbenun / Magnetic Island like never before. Encounter the quiet exchange between your body and the living world around you when you visit Life Support by Squeak and Bubble, featuring Sheryl Lowe. Reflect on ideas of home, belonging, attachment and what it truly means to be free as you look closely at Jill Chism’s Placeless, and ponder time, place and our moment in history as you view The Mark by Jenny Mulcahy.
The bus stops at the PUNQ Pop Up Co Op at Magnetic International Resort, where you can discover a diverse collection of contemporary, handmade and place-based art from artists connected to Yunbenun / Magnetic Island and the wider region.
Expect everything from recycled-material sculpture, jewellery and textiles to watercolour, painting, prints and illustrated fabrics, alongside contemporary Indigenous and wearable art inspired by Country, land and sea. Explore curious and whimsical objects, natural materials, sustainable art practices and works inspired by the island’s vibrant tropical ecology and wildlife.
At 1.30pm, enjoy a live performance by Yunbenun / Magnetic Island resident and artist Anna Salleh, whose love of bossa nova and samba has taken her from Sydney to Brazil and back to North Queensland. Her original compositions draw on the rhythms and melodies of Brazilian music and her connection to island life.
Come and browse, discover, meet the artists and take home a piece of Yunbenun’s creative energy.
There are two trips: one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Both visit all the artworks and the Pop Up Co Op.
