Event description

Join us for the first Pupukemoana Care working bee, a community-led initiative to protect Lake Pupuke and its surrounding reserves. This session will focus on removing eel grass that has gathered along the lake edges.

The invasive eel grass fragments can degrade water quality, block native plants from growing, and make lake access difficult. By lending a hand, you’ll help restore the health of Pupukemoana, support local biodiversity, and make the lake more enjoyable for everyone.

No prior experience is needed. We’ll use rakes and nets to collect the eel grass, which will then be distributed among Sylvan Park forest to decompose naturally. Please bring gloves if you have them (we can provide some on a non-returnable basis).

This is the first of many Pupukemoana Care events, which will also focus on rubbish removal, pest plant control, mulching, and planting in surrounding Pupukemoana reserves.
