Event description

The Push-Up Challenge is an annual fitness challenge to promote physical well-being and mental health while fundraising for better mental health by supporting organisations like Lifeline.

In 2024, the Push Up Challenge target is to complete 3,249 push-ups from 5-28 June.

Why 3,249? Sadly, this represents the number of lives lost to suicide in 2022 across Australia.

This year Lifeline Northern Beaches is seeking the support of all 21 SLSCs from across the northern beaches by getting involved and having fun.

We see this event as an opportunity for SLS SNB and Lifeline Northern Beaches to collaborate in promoting positive well-being in our community, with a fantastic opportunity for club engagement and PR with a broad reach.

The funds raised through the Push-Up Challenge will be used by Lifeline Northern Beaches to provide local services such as counselling, support groups and financial counselling plus help us answer calls to the national telephone line 13 11 14. Last year, Lifeline Northern Beaches answered more than 55,000 calls to 13 11 14 and supported more than 1,200 locals through our face-to-face services.

As part of the promotional campaign, we would like to attempt a World Record for ‘Most people performing push-ups across multiple venues’, which is where SLSCs are going to be most important.

We are also looking for support for this campaign with video content of surf life savers doing push-ups – and would aim to record these videos within the next four weeks for roll-out in June.

Registrations to the Push-Up Challenge will be a two-step process, and we would require someone to sign-up as a team captain from each SLSC.
