Putting Professionalism Into Practice: Why We Do What We Do
Event description
Career development practitioners (CDPs) require specific knowledge, skills, and attitudes as described in CICA’s Professional Standards. However, competent and efficient CDP performance requires synergy that’s greater than the sum of its parts.
Core Competency 7, Professional Practice Application, serves as the alchemy, the powerful and somewhat magical process, that binds the other essential ingredients (Core Competencies 1–6) into something quite extraordinary, a true professional.
The Professional Practice Application competencies are, in some ways, transcendent; if you read about them outside of the Professional Standards for Career Development Practitioners, you might not realise that they were referring to the work of CDPs. However, operating without these essential competencies would be much like driving without a map or navigation system in a vehicle that hasn’t been maintained. You’d risk becoming lost, stranded, or stuck, spinning your wheels. Your starting place might be either a prescribed standard or random; without clear goals, you would have no means to evaluate service outcomes.
In this webinar, examine Core Competency 7’s essential elements: needs assessment, case/project management, enterprise skills, and service evaluation. Learn how integrating them into your practice will set you apart as a professional, regardless of work setting or geographic location.
