Event description
Putting the AI into advisory insights – AgriTechNZ Members Only Webinar
Join our first Members-only webinar of the year, where we speak with Nuffield Scholar, James Allen, CEO of AgFirst. He has just scoured the globe gathering insights on data and AI-powered agri-advisory services. Ironically, he did this the old-fashioned way by forming in-person relationships.
We think there’s a lesson in that and will uncover the role of machines in relationship-centric activities. We’ll hear James’ insights and discuss data, intelligence, trust, creativity, intuition and emotions.
Speakers:
- James Allen, CEO, AgFirst
James is the CEO of AgFirst, New Zealand’s largest provider of primary sector consultancy services. A key focus of his consultancy work is business planning, farm systems design, environmental management, and agribusiness project work, both nationally and internationally, having worked in Rwanda, Ethiopia, Fiji, Vanuatu, Australia, Chile and Ireland.
James is also the immediate past president of the New Zealand Fieldays Society, a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Primary Industry Management, and a previous national president of New Zealand Young Farmers.
Originally from a sheep and beef farm near Raetihi, James and his wife Kerry now live at Matangi, along with their three sons, and are actively involved in the local community. Alongside the consultancy business James and Kerry are partners in a variety of farming and non-farming businesses. In his free time James enjoys diving, tramping, skiing and cycling.
Participating in a Nuffield programme has been a long-term goal for James, and he is enjoying the challenge. The rise of Agriculture 4.0, the next agricultural revolution, and in particular the increased use of AI, is set to bring profound change on how both famers and farm advisers solve the complex problems facing farming. His research topic is focused on re-defining what excellence looks like for the agricultural advisory sector in the midst of this change, to help keep New Zealand farmers at the leading edge of profitability and sustainability.
