Coding Clubs: Python Coding for 6th - 8th Grade
Event description
This club meets weekly from November 11th - December 9th from 7:15 - 8:15 p.m. Registration includes ALL five weekly sessions.
Learn how to code with the mentorship of MSOE computer science and software engineering students in this 5 week program!
Coding Clubs provide space for interested students to learn coding at their own pace with the mentorship of MSOE CS students. Students enrolled in this program will gain access to the Tynker Python 101 course. Tynker allows students to work at their own pace and provides 24/7 access to the platform enabling students to continue the fun at home.
Coding Clubs are not a traditional classroom or instructional experience. You can expect your student to work independently on Tynker while having access to a computer science student mentor. Snacks will be provided and students are welcome to work with others as they desire.
Laptops are available for use while in the STEM Center for any student who needs one. Students who have their own laptop are welcome to bring it to club sessions.
Scholarships are available for any student that needs one - please contact stem@msoe.edu to receive more information.
Prerequisites
Students must be able to read at the listed grade level and be able to work independently. Previous coding experience is not required, but we recommend brand new coders try our block coding session this fall to learn the fundamentals of coding first.
Our mentors will do their best to keep students on task throughout the session, but are not instructors and cannot provide 1:1 redirection for students to remain on task.
