Event description

Join Us for an Epic Q+A with Ultra Cyclist Rufus Wenlock

Adventure calls to all of us, but few answer with the same intensity as kiwi Rufus Wenlock.

Bicycle Junction is excited to welcome ultra-endurance cyclist Rufus Wenlock for a special Q+A event! Rufus, a Christchurch-based adventurer, has made a name for himself on some of the toughest bikepacking routes around the world, including his recent third-place finish in the grueling Silk Road Mountain Race in Kyrgyzstan last month. Earlier this year, Rufus also took on the Tour Te Waipounamu, where, after five intense days, finished just hours behind the winner and good friend, Joe Nation.

In this session, Rufus will share stories of designing and building his own bikes, custom-made to fit bikepacking bags for his ultra-endurance adventures. He’ll recount his incredible experiences racing through some of the world’s most remote and brutal terrains, and how he balances the demands of ultra-endurance racing with life as a stay-at-home dad of two. You’ll hear firsthand about the mental and physical challenges he faces, from riding at extreme altitudes to battling wild storms and scorching heat.

Whether you're gearing up for a bikepacking adventure, an aspiring ultra-racer, or simply curious about the world of bikepacking, this is a unique opportunity to learn from one of New Zealand’s most resourceful and relentless cyclists. Bring your questions and get ready to be inspired by stories of grit, gear, and great adventures.
