    Understanding New Laws Restricting the Sale of Knives and Other Controlled Items in QLD

    Information Session for Business


    The National Retail Association has officially partnered with the Queensland Police Service to educate retailers on new legislation which will see knives and other controlled items prohibited from sale to minors, as well as requirements for secure storage of particular items prior to sale. 


    Event Description: 

    Join us for our Online Information Session aimed at educating businesses about the upcoming legislation changes in Queensland. New laws will restrict the sale of knives and other controlled items to individuals under the age of 18. 


    What to Expect: 
    • Detailed Overview of New Legislation: 
      • Learn about the prohibition of selling controlled items such as knives, axes, tomahawks, machetes, swords, and spears to minors. 
    • Staff Training and Compliance: 
      • Understand the requirements for staff instruction, written acknowledgements, and the display of mandatory signage at points of sale. 
    • Promotional Restrictions: 
      • Get insights on restrictions against marketing that suggests a controlled item is suitable for combat or encourages violence. 
    • Secure Storage Requirements: 
      • Discover how to securely store particular controlled items prior to sale to ensure compliance. 
    • Additional Controlled Items: 
      • Information on the obligations concerning gel blasters under the Weapons Act. 


    Business Support Program: 

    From May to October, the National Retail Association will provide a comprehensive support program to help businesses comply with these new requirements. This includes a detailed Guide for Business, staff training materials, a toll-free hotline, online sessions, and more.
