Queensland Parliament education program (Years 10 to 12)

Our education program provides Legal Studies students with the opportunity to engage with the work of the Legislative Assembly.

Who

• Year 10 to 12 Legal Studies or Social and Community Studies students 

Group size 

• We have a maximum capacity of 30 to 50 students, depending on the date. 

Duration

• 9.30am to 12.30pm, with a 9.15am arrival time.

Cost 

• Free 
  

Morning tea

• Students are asked to bring a small snack to enjoy during their visit.

Other important information

• All supervising staff and students must pass through security screening to enter the parliamentary precinct. 
  
• All supervising adults must bring a Government Issued Photo ID (a precinct entry requirement). 
• Some photography restrictions apply. 

• Entry is via Alice Street. For more information about entering the parliamentary precinct, view this video. 

What's involved? 

Students will: 

• Learn key legal concepts such as representative government, responsible government, separation of powers doctrine and unicameralism.
• Explore and analyse the legislative process through a role play.
• View the Legislative Assembly in action (sitting days only). 
• Discover the architectural features and history of Parliament House.
• Gain an understanding of the role of a member of parliament with a Q&A involving your local member (subject to availability).
