Description

Working through Change

When: Friday 2 October 2026, 11am to 1pm

Where: QRC, Queenstown (top floor)

Cost: Free, thanks to our partners and supporters

Technology is changing around us and our roles are changing with it. Motherhood changes what we need from work. Both are shifts we are all working through, so let us navigate them together.

Queenstown Women in Tech is back at QRC, and this one is a bit different. Two breakout rooms run side by side and you pick the conversation that fits where you are right now. We will have room hosts sharing their perspectives and answering questions, but no panel at the front telling you how it is done, just an honest chat about what is changing and what we are each doing about it.

Room 1: Technology, AI and our changing roles

Technology is changing around us, and our roles are changing with it. AI is opening up opportunities that did not exist here before, which matters when you are building a career in a smaller town with fewer options on your doorstep. You no longer have to be technical to use technology or to build with it. So how do we adapt? Do we start a business? Make our own opportunities? Upskill, or transition into something new altogether? Let us talk about the shift and what we are each doing about it.

Room 2: Motherhood, flexibility and career

Motherhood changes what you need from work. Flexible hours, working from home, a role that bends when life does. So how well does the tech industry actually support that, and what are women in our community doing to make it work? How do you juggle it when your career and your family both matter? Let us talk honestly about it.

What to expect

  • An honest chat about what is changing

  • Ideas you can actually use, from women working it out in real time.

  • Proper time to network, with easy introductions if you do not know a soul.

  • A light lunch and drinks, on us.

  • A friendly room. Come on your own, or bring your team, your partner or a mate.

Who it is for

  • You work in tech, or you work with tech every day and have never called yourself a tech person.

  • You are navigating change at work, or thinking about a pivot, a step up, or a business of your own.

  • You are curious about AI and quietly sick of being talked at about it.

  • You are doing all of the above alongside a family.

  • Students, career changers, founders, team members and supporters.

Queenstown Women in Tech is a volunteer community running free events through the year for women in tech and women who want to be. Come and join our wee community. Bring a colleague, a friend or your partner. Everyone is welcome and newbies especially. Let us navigate this together.

Thank you to our sponsors Both Brains, Crayon and Microsoft for helping us fund this event and keep it free for all of our members, to QRC for providing the venue, and to Jonny James for the photography.
