We value our love as our liberation and queer poetry is our shared tongue of the poetics. A pluridiverse voice of queer poesy. Through poetry of love, care and healing, let's reclaim our Queer Pride.

Sappho Queers (SQ) started it’s journey in 2018 sheltered in the Hunter office of ACON, Newcastle, inspired by poet Sappho (630 BC), the presiding genius of same-sex love. Although Sappho’s poems survived only in fragments, yet these fragments inspired a diverse group of sex and gender non-conformists to come together under her patronage and founding Sappho Queers in 2018, in Newcastle. 

SQ gives life to the spirit of Sappho by celebrating queer culture by organising poetry reading, workshops, poetry picnic and publication of an annual queer poetry anthology. SQ asks their contributors to send a brief account of their views on their queer poetry along with their poems. They leave a fragrance that lingers in their poetry readings, picnics, conversations and publications. Queer poetry is our shared tongue of the poetics. 

Let's celebrate the Newcastle Pride 2026 with poems of queer world-making foregrounding queer art.
