Event description

Queer-ways: Queer in Maribyrnong is a one-day workshop series held at Footscray Community Arts that unites LGBTQIA+ youth to develop a community arts exhibition designed by and for youth. Hosted by the Queer-ways team, an award-winning community arts initiative that charts the queer cartography of Australia, attendees will connect with each other and place, reworking historical examples of Melbourne’s queer visual language to inspire new outcomes representative of their contemporary identities.

The day will be made up of three workshop sessions, featuring discussion, art making and curation as well as a presentation by guest speaker Timothy Jones, President of the Australian Queer Archives. Tea and coffee will be supplied for the day, please bring your own food to eat during our lunch breaks.

The workshop will pass on queer history and culture to the young participants, develop skills for future employment pathways, and grow participant confidence as well as their connection to the community. The resulting work will be exhibited in mid-late 2025 at a location to be confirmed.
