Blaise Wright: Sharp Tongues - Dialogue Workshop ticket
Sharp Tongues: Dialogue - How to say the unsaid and write compelling dialogue for your characters. Blaise Wright (they/them) is an acespec enby professional writer/teacher who has over 10 years of industry and academic experience in creative writing. They have a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Queensland (St. Lucia), specialising in English, Creative Writing and Film (as an unofficial third major). Blaise's particular expertise is in the establishment of long-lasting communities. They are responsible for the successful establishment of two major programs at the Queensland Writers Centre: Writing Fridays and Youth Writing, and they have comprehensive experience facilitating workshops. Presently, they are the lead facilitator of Authors & Adventure, an independent workshop series dedicated to providing an affirming space for LGBTQIA+ and neurodiverse creative writers to explore their craft. They also teach English as a private tutor with Alchemy Tuition.

This workshop covers everything from what a poetry slam is, to how to write a poem, and begins to look at performance technique. Over 90 minutes, it allows participants to explore various elements of performance poetry, from storytelling to comedy, and discover different ways to engage with language and performance. Angela Peita is a spoken word artist, community cultural development worker, workshop facilitator and live art producer. She is co-founder and co-director of Ruckus Slam, the hugely popular Brisbane slam and arts company. Angela has performed around Australia and overseas, and has appeared at such festivals as Woodford Folk Festival, Jungle Love, Red Dirt Festival & Women Of The World. She has been published online through The Griffith Review, Pressure Gauge Press and Bareknuckle Books, Featured in the Solid Air collection, has been a QLD poetry slam finalist, has won Bellingen Writers Festival slams people’s choice award, and most recently was awarded Brisbane Festivals Community Hereos award for her contributions to the arts. Angela has performed across many towns, schools and festivals. She is an energetic and innovative teacher who is passionate about creating spaces for artistic expression and enacting social change through the arts.

‘How to Make a Zine’ gives participants from diverse backgrounds an understanding of zines and zine culture, as well as the tools they need to start working on a small zine on a topic of their choice. Rae White is a queer non-binary transgender writer, and author of poetry collections Milk Teeth (UQP 2018) and Exactly As I Am (UQP 2022). Rae was awarded the Thomas Shapcott Poetry Prize in 2017, and has been shortlisted for the Prime Minister’s Literary Awards, Queensland Literary Awards, and Victorian Premier's Literary Awards. Their debut picture book All the Colours of the Rainbow (Lothian Children’s Books/Hachette), with illustrations by Sha’an d’Anthes, was published in January 2025. Rae is the Creative Director and Founder of Uplift Poetry, a community poetry initiative; the Founding Editor of #EnbyLife, a journal for non-binary and gender diverse creatives; a co-host on the 4ZZZ radio show Tranzmission; and a member of the Board of Directors at Australian Poetry.

Forget the sanitised cartoon versions; in this workshop we'll explore the weird history of fairy tales, uncover queer subtext in centuries-old stories, and reinvent the fairy tale as inspiration for modern queer narratives. Grace has taught university classes in queer literature, fairy tales, fantasy, gothic horror, and children's literature. She's currently finishing a creative writing PhD, where she's working on a Victorian YA ghost story. Grace has previously hosted The Book Show on community radio station 4ZZZ, and nearly passed out when she got to meet her literary icon, Sarah Waters. She also works as a freelance editor, and when she's not reading or writing, she is probably birdwatching.

The World in Your Hands is a workshop that builds worlds and community. Worldbuilding in fantasy and sci-fi can create a living, breathing environment so compelling that readers sink into it as if it were the real world. When not done well it can feel implausible, problematic, or just plain boring. The World in Your Hands is a fantasy and sci-fi worldbuilding workshop that connects writers with other writers, provides a space to learn from each other, and forms a safe container to explore and play in crafting a new fantastical world with others. The workshop is filled with relationship-building activities, front-of-the-room content delivery, solo writing time based on prompts, small group work, and full group reflections. Move past writer’s block, tired tropes, and writing in isolation, to leave with the skills, connections, and inspiration to build innovative new worlds. Eli Sutherland (they/them) is an award-winning poet, writer, and creative consultant living on Wurundjeri Country. They are a non-binary, queer, disabled creative, the new Trans Book Festival Director, the Treasurer of the Board of Overland, and studying a Master of Arts (Writing and Literature) at Deakin University. Awarded a 2026 Varuna Residential Fellowship for their fantasy novel, No One Without the Other, a number of Eli’s short stories and poems have also been finalists, shortlisted for, or won writing awards, including the University of Canberra 2024 Health Poetry Prize and Frontier Poetry’s 2023 Ekphrastic Poetry Prize. Eli’s writing has appeared in Cordite, Mascara Review, StylusLit, Swamp Magazine, Left Brain Media, ScratchThat Magazine, Queer Out Here, and more.
