Quenda needs a home: Help us build bandicoot bungalows!
Event description
Join LCC and ecologist David Broadhurst from Perth NRM, to build artificial habitat structures for the southwestern brown bandicoot, or Quenda.
As part of the Leschenault Estuary Connect Program we are restoring habitat at Crimp Crescent Reserve for the Quenda and other native species living in the area.
Come along to the workshop and learn about:
- Quenda populations and ecology
- How to not mistake them for a rat!
- Constructing artificial habitat
- Planned works at Crimp Crescent Reserve
- How you can get involved!
Quenda love dense plantings of low understory plants, and lots of plant diversity. The bungalow structures are bushy with food sources, and predator proof. Led by ecologist and environmental biologist David Broadhurst we'll learn the process and specifications of building a bungalow and also discuss population trends, identification and the ecology of local Quenda.
Please wear appropriate clothing; enclosed shoes, a hat, long sleeve shirt and pants and bring along gloves if you have a pair!
Don't miss this opportunity to learn more about the marsupials living in our own backyard and what we can do to help shift their conservation status. Bonus! Chance to win one of three $50 native plant vouchers from the Leschenault Community Nursery!
This project is supported by the Leschenault Estuary Connect Program, made possible through generous funding support from Lotterywest, helping build a better WA together, and the Shire of Harvey.
