Quilt Freedom Workshop 55: Shiny Silky
Event description
First Quilt Freedom Workshop of 2025! January 18
Like many quilt makers I almost always sew with cotton. But long before cotton became the dominant language in which quilts spoke, there were silk and linen patchworks as well as whole cloth quilts and skirts. In the International Quilt Museum are quite a few examples we will look at and in the studio we will have a premier silk sewist and quilter, Julia McLeod. Julia's new book on the subject, "Patchwork Luxe," is full of tips and patterns for using necktie silk, silk from dresses and shirts, silks of different origin and weight. Her quilts are colorful and joyful. We'll be talking about the challenges of using silk and some of the techniques that make it easier. If Julie Silber is available, she has promised to make a guest appearance as well and show some of her silk quilts. I'll be pulling some silks from my own stash and doing something fun with them! As always, if you aren't available to watch the workshop when we do it live, you can buy a ticket anyway and receive the recording to watch whenever you like.Â
