Quilt Freedom Workshop 67: Satire Deluxe

I met Shawn Quinlan 17 or 18 years ago when I was writing "Men and the Art of Quiltmaking." His brilliant and often hilarious work shows his social and political engagement without reservation. I first became of his work when I saw a picture online of "Jesus Get Your Gun," a sweetly satirical image of a cowboy Jesus and his rifle from 2004. In the years since the book came out, Shawn has continued to develop and refine his collage-like approach, making ever more abstract and technically ambitious work while deepening and expanding his themes. Fortunately, he now spends much of the year in the San Francisco Bay area and will be joining me live for a freewheeling discussion of his approach, his techniques and his intentions as an artist, as well as sharing some of his quilts in the studio.
