Quilt Freedom Workshop 73: Seeing Different
Description
I met both Roderick Kiracofe and Julie Silber in the early 1980's. Somehow we turned into lifelong friends. You can see that all three of us wear black tee shirts, which puts us in a special, exclusive club. Rod and Julie have each been monumental in shaping the last 50 years of the quilt tradition. As collectors and dealers they have found history-making, life-changing works of quilt artistry that reveal the true extent of the genius behind so many of the quilts that shaped our understanding. That sounds like hyperbole, I know, but there it is. And the cool thing is that they both live close enough that they can come by with quilts to show and discuss during my Quilt Freedom Workshops. This time we will be seeing quilts that seem to defy the very tradition from which they came. I'll be using one of the ideas to demonstrate how I use the old to make the new.
