Join us at our upcoming Adelaide Industry lunch, to hear from Jon Whelan, Chief Executive, Department for Infrastructure and Transport. Jon is currently overseeing the largest transport infrastructure pipeline in South Australia’s history and has considerable state-wide experience across road safety, planning, procurement, contracting and transport management.

Jon Whelan is the Chief Executive for the South Australian Department for Infrastructure and Transport with over 39 years of extensive experience with the Department. He is passionate and committed to deliver valuable social and transport infrastructure, as well as service delivery, with responsibility for ensuring well-connected and customer focused services are delivered safely, efficiently, and sustainably.
Accountable to the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Jon is responsible for the delivery of over $20 billion of social and transport infrastructure, over the forwards, all aimed at improving the lives of South Australians, including those in regional South Australia. This includes the delivery of the largest and most complex road infrastructure project undertaken in South Australia’s history, the $15.4 billion, North-South Corridor, River Torrens to Darlington Project.
Jon has recently been asked to lead the pre-delivery and procurement of the Northern Water Project, a major water infrastructure undertaking to deliver a large-scale desalination plant and pipeline for industry in the Eyre Peninsula, Upper Spencer Gulf and the Far North regions of South Australia.
Jon is also the Rail Commissioner and Commissioner of Highways, with overarching responsibilities for all modes of transport in South Australia.
