Join us for an exclusive event focusing on Brisbane's future transport plans and the opportunities and future legacy presented by the coming 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. 

Emma Thomas, Interim CEO of Games Venue and Legacy Delivery Authority (GVLDA), and Cr Ryan Murphy from Brisbane City Council (BCC) will discuss the collaboration between Queensland Government authorities to deliver integrated transport services for a smarter, greener city. As Brisbane continues to grow, there is a critical need to enhance public transport infrastructure to meet population demands and decarbonisation targets. 

The strong legacy principle of the Olympic and Paralympic Games alongside Roads Australia's decarbonising infrastructure priority, is a powerful match to stimulate best practice infrastructure planning and design from the sector. In addition, this event will seek to inspire new ways to optimise existing and new road and transport assets and encourage active and public transport ‘mode shift’ - every day through the work of the sector.

This event will also explore Council's plans to improve public and active transport, including bikeways and walking bridges. With the 2032 Games on the horizon, we have a generational opportunity to transform Queensland economically, culturally, socially, and environmentally.

1pm - Cr Ryan Murphy - Civic Cabinet Chair for Transport | Brisbane City Council 
Cr Ryan Murphy is the Civic Cabinet Chair for Transport and the Councillor for Chandler Ward in Brisbane City Council.

Ryan oversees a number of Council’s major projects including the $1.55Bn Brisbane Metro and $550M Bridges for Brisbane program, as well as Brisbane’s bus, ferry and CityCat fleet. He is responsible for the Transport for Brisbane network which carries 80 million passengers annually. He also leads the rollout of the city’s innovative e-mobility program and Council’s  investment into bicycle infrastructure projects.

Ryan holds a Bachelor of Arts with a Double Major in Political Science (UQ) and is currently completing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with the University of Queensland. Before becoming a Councillor, he served in the Australian Army Reserves as Communications Systems Operator and worked in the private sector as a public relations consultant for some of Queensland’s largest infrastructure and resource projects.

Emma Thomas is an experienced executive leader, with more than 30 years’ working within large public and private sector organisations. Known for operating efficiently and delivering outcomes through complexity and ambiguity, Emma has established a reputation for going above and beyond to support and galvanise her team for high performance.

Emma’s current role—interim Chief Executive Office of the Games Venue and Legacy Delivery Authority (GVLDA)—sees her lead a newly established organisation with a focus on delivering new and upgraded venues that will be used during the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and ready for the benefit of communities well beyond the Games. In addition, GVLDA will monitor the delivery of villages, develop a Transport and Mobility Strategy, and maximise the opportunity of hosting the Games through a range of programs focused on: Legacy, Sustainability, First Nations, Accessibility and Inclusion, and Procurement and Supply Chain.

Emma’s extensive experience has shaped her personal and professional values. Leading with honesty, courage and kindness, Emma aims to influence every organisation and team she is a part of to achieve outcomes with a shared vision and purpose.
