Event description

Welcome to Rainbow Rope Jam! A brand new FREE rope jam for queer folks & their friends.

This is a free event with limited spaces, but feel free to sign up to the waitlist if you miss out to be notified of any cancellations, or follow @RainbowConfetti on Fetlife/Rainbow Rope Jam on Humanitix for upcoming events.

Please note: Humanitix asks for First Name, Last Name, Mobile, and Email at checkout, which I can't turn off, but please feel free to fill these sections with nonsense if you wish. On the following page at checkout, I ask for first name (can be an alias/preferred name) and FetLife handle, and this is all I need/want. Entering a valid email will mean you'll be sent a copy of your ticket, but you can also contact me for a copy if you'd prefer.

Date: Friday 17th January 2025

Time: 7PM-11PM

Location: Lygon St, Brunswick East, venue address released to ticket holders

Getting there: On street parking is available, and the 1 and 6 trams both run along Lygon St with one of the stops being directly outside the venue, and Brunswick Station being a 17 min walk away.

Accessibility and navigating the space: Feel free to contact me for the venue access guide if needed. This venue has no stairs, and is wheelchair/mobility aid friendly excluding the bathroom.
Your event host @RainbowConfetti has rainbow hair and is usually easy to spot - please ask them if you have any questions or need help on the day!
Gender neutral bathroom is available on-site, towards the back of the venue.
Soft music will be playing during the event.

Frequently asked questions:

Q: What will the vibe be like at Rainbow Rope Jam?
A: Fun, social, inclusive, friendly and consent-focussed. We’re striving to create a welcoming space for all bodies, abilities, backgrounds, and intentions, to come together to have fun with rope!
We have a zero tolerance policy on bigotry and hate; this means no racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, size or body shaming, bullying, or anything else meant to tear others down.

Q: What should I wear?
A: For the most part, anything you’re comfortable with. We request no outfits that will make a mess in the space (glitter, feathers, etc), but outside of that, anything that makes you feel good and you feel comfortable tying or being tied in, is perfect!

Q: What IS a rope jam?
A: A social event set up with spaces to tie yourself, or others (by negotiation), and connect with other people to share skills and hang out. This is not a class, place to pick up, or sex on premises event.

Q: What kind of tying/play can I do?
A: Anything tying that is within your skill level and comfort zone! We don't have suspension points available in our Brunswick East venue unless kind folks volunteer to bring one along (shoot @RainbowConfetti a message if you can!) but we're going to be raising funds to buy one to use at our free rope jams going forward, so watch this space!
There are big squishy foam mats & yoga mats/room for floor rope, chairs and couches, and others will be self-tying or tying on others. Touching others or interacting with play must always be negotiated first.
We're not a general play event, so impact and other kinds of play that may affect other's scenes will be stopped. You're welcome to include fun ideas, sensation play etc in your rope scenes, but rope must be the focus.

Q: Is rope provided? What should I bring?
A: Rope isn't provided, and shears will be present but it’s expected that you bring both your own rope and cutting tool if you’re intending to tie, and to always ask before touching anyone else's rope.
We're in a small venue, so we request you pack light and only bring what you'll need on the night.

Q: I’m brand new to rope, help!
A: If you’re brand new to rope, it’s suggested you take at least 1 beginner class before attending so you have a basic understanding of anatomy and safety. I love the vibe at @MelCommunityRope and highly recommend their beginner classes and rope jams! We aren't including education in these events, so if you have 0 experience, we'll be here when you're ready.

Q: Why was Rainbow Rope Jam created?
A: I've been part of a lot of discussions about a lack of free or low cost spaces in the scene to play, learn, and interact with others outside of munches. This has been born out of those, and the fact my house isn't big enough to fit all my rope friends in when we're tying. 😂

Rainbow Rope Jam organises on unceded Aboriginal land belonging to the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation.
We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of this land, pay our respects to Elders past and present, and note that sovereignty has never been ceded.
This always was and always will be Aboriginal land.
