Rally and Action to Save Community Schools!
Event description
Join community organizations, students and families to rally in front of the John A Wilson Building to tell the DC Council: We must SAVE COMMUNITY SCHOOLS and keep vital programs that service students and families and help reduce truancy. The Mayor's proposed budget cuts $2.5 million that provides funding for 17 schools community school model- providing services from medical, dental and vision care, immunization support, after school programming, food and hygiene pantries, support for teen parents and so much more- made possible through the work of Community Schools Coordinators at each school- funded under these grants. The budget also cuts $2.19 million in truancy reduction programs that provide effective case management to help re-engage some of DC's most disengaged students. We must reverse these cuts.
Join us for a press conference, rally and then we'll head into the Wilson Building to tell council-members why it's so critical to reverse these cuts.
9:30 am: Rally and Press Conference on the Wilson Building Front Steps
10: 30 am: Head into the Wilson Building for "walk around" to talk to council-members
