Ranger-guided Reef Ramble Pondalowie Bay
Event description
Join our rangers to explore the intertidal reef of Pondalowie Bay and discover the amazing marine life of the Southern Spencer Gulf Marine Park.
The event will start with an informative talk and chance to learn about the Great Southern Reef, an area more diverse and unique then the Great Barrier Reef, and the importance of marine parks in protecting this area. You will then walk onto the reef as low tide unveils its treasures to explore the marine flora and fauna that call this important ecosystem home.
Accessibility:
Parking is available at the Pondalowie Bay Lookout carpark (also known as Goblet Bay carpark). There will be approximately a 300 metre walk to the beach on a flat trail.
The trail down to the beach and reef is rocky. The activity will involve some rock hopping (walking on reef) on wet, uneven and slippery surfaces. There is no shade or shelter, and the closest toilet is at Pondalowie Bay campground (600 metres from the carpark).
