Offerings for the great humanity experiment (Rat Child Residency)

This event is taking place on the stolen and unceded lands of the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation and is facilitated by an artist and venue that stand in steadfast solidarity with these - and all First Nations people in their struggle for social and ecological justice, treaty, sovereignty and self-determination. First Nations people are welcome to attend events free of charge and we endeavour to create a culturally safe space for all who join us. 

Offerings for the Great Humanity Experiment: An Artist Residency by Rat Child

Black Spark Cultural Centre and community artist, musician and Naarm-local Rat Child have teamed up to present a monthly community offering in the guise of a creative development residency. This event aims to cultivate a community driven space that draws upon song, poetry, reflection, discussion, meditation and secular prayer as a means to harness and foster our shared humanity. All are welcome regardless of politics, race, religion, identity and ability. The only requirements* are a genuine curiosity, a little courage and openhearted commitment to deep listening, to community and hope.

*You may leave your singing baggage at the door: singing is your human right(!) and I encourage you to lean into the joy and solace of singing with others.

These events will take on the format of a relaxed workshop and will require your participation. The modes will evolve over the course of the 12 month residency but as a starting point the workshop will involve some combination of group activity, communal singing, personal reflections and group discussions, informal chats and of course, tea drinking. They will draw upon the original works of Rat Child and other arrangements she has put together specifically for this residency.

Wear comfortable clothing (always, as far as I’m concerned) and bring water and a journal if that’s your thing.
