RBM MOVIE CLUB: Don't Open Till Christmas

You better watch out! The aXe-mas season is almost upon us and we are getting into the GHOULtide spirit with this sleazily delightful British video nasty: “Don’t Open Till Christmas.”

The SLAY BELLS are ringing over London, but it’s not Santa Claus who is working through a naughty list – instead, a crazed killer is stalking and murdering any Santa Clause he can find. Not even Mrs Claus is safe from his homicidal rampage. Yes, if you’ve ever wanted to see Ol Saint Nick get stabbed, shot, garrotted, castrated and even burned up on a plate of roasting chestnuts, this is the movie for you! You could say this movie is A WONDERFUL KNIFE, as our crazed killers spreads a tinsel of terror of merry ol England, as tis the season to kill Santa!

This movie is so niche, I had to mail order on DVD from MONDOCINEMA – and let me tell you it is a MESS. Created during the heyday of the English VIDEO NASTY epidemic, DON’T OPEN TIL CHRISTMAS was the product of an extremely troubled production (with a rumoured THREE directors), this film is a fascinatingly terrible mix of stalking and slashings, but the most gratuitous element is the totally out of place musical number from 80s horror icon Caroline Monro.

Ridiculously gory kills that must have created a shortage of red paint, nonsensical plotting, confounding editing and a premise that, let’s admit, is just bonkers, I guarantee an endlessly entertaining evening as we decide if this movie is RAD, BAD or MAD.
